VLBW: Human Milk (Mothers' Milk and Donor) Dose Response (2020)
-
Intervention
In VLBW preterm infants (less than or equal to 1,500g at birth), what is the association between human milk (mothers' and donor) dose response and weight gain?
-
Conclusion
In very low birth weight (VLBW) preterm infants, one retrospective cohort study described that higher proportions of intake from fortified human milk, from a combination of mother's own milk (MOM) and donor milk, resulted in greater decreases in weight z-score from birth to discharge.

Grade: III
- Grade I means there is Good/Strong evidence supporting the statement;
- Grade II is Fair;
- Grade III is Limited/Weak;
- Grade IV is Expert Opinion Only;
- Grade V is Not Assignable.
- High (A) means we are very confident that the true effect lies close to that of the estimate of the effect;
- Moderate (B) means we are moderately confident in the effect estimate;
- Low (C) means our confidence in the effect estimate is limited;
- Very Low (D) means we have very little confidence in the effect estimate.
- Ungraded means a grade is not assignable.

In VLBW preterm infants (less than or equal to 1,500g at birth), what is the association between human milk (mothers' and donor) dose response and mortality, morbidities, development, GI health, or protein utilization?-
Conclusion
No studies were identified that evaluated the association between human milk (mothers' and donor) dose response and mortality, morbidities, development, GI health, or protein utilization in very low birth weight (VLBW) preterm infants.
